Still Debating Whether to Watch?
Though the movie’s been out for over two weeks now, plenty of action buffs are still sitting on the fence, wondering if The Old Guard 2 is worth hitting play on. What exactly can you expect if you dive in? Here’s our no-nonsense The Old Guard 2 review, complete with a few spoilers. So, if you’re not bothered by that, go ahead and see what we think about this one
Alright, so I finally got around to watching The Old Guard 2 last night, and honestly? It was kinda like reheating leftover pizza, sure, it’s still pizza, but it’s missing that fresh-out-of-the-oven magic.
The Premise and New Faces

Picking up after the first movie, we’ve got Andy (Charlize Theron) dealing with the very inconvenient truth of not being immortal anymore, while the rest of her crew continues to shrug off bullet wounds like they’re mosquito bites. Enter Discord (Uma Thurman) — which, let’s be real, is a name that made me think of the app more than an ancient powerhouse villain, and Quynh (Ngo Thanh Van), who’s understandably cranky after spending centuries drowning on repeat. (I mean, who wouldn’t have issues after that?)
Cool Action… But It Blurs Together
The movie tries to keep us glued with the usual suspects: slick car chases, balletic gun-fu, sword fights that look like TikTok choreography on steroids. And hey, I’ll admit, some of those fight scenes were fun to watch. But after a while, it all started to blur together, like scrolling Instagram Reels for an hour and realizing you can’t remember a single one. Honestly, if someone asked me for The Old Guard 2 Review right after, I’d probably just shrug and say, “lots of noise, not much bite.”

What kinda irked me was how the movie just skirts past the “why” of these immortals. Are they the long-lost cousins of the Eternals? Was there a weird genetic mutation a thousand years ago? Blessed by a grumpy god on his coffee break? Who knows, and apparently the filmmakers don’t care to tell us either. Part of me actually respects that. Sometimes over-explaining kills the mystique. But here? It just felt lazy, like they were hoping we wouldn’t notice.
Quynh Deserved So Much More
Then there’s Quynh. I was so excited to see Ngo Thanh Van back after loving her in Furie. I thought she’d be slicing through this movie like a hot knife through butter, trauma spilling everywhere in glorious cinematic pain. Instead, they kind of leave her mental scars on the cutting room floor, which felt like such a missed opportunity. It’s like inviting Gordon Ramsay over and then handing him a packet of instant noodles.
Henry Golding pops up as Tuah, the immortal librarian, basically who dumps exposition on us like a college professor cramming for the end of the semester. And while I love seeing Golding’s face anywhere (hello, Crazy Rich Asians forever crush), even he couldn’t make the lore dumps very tasty.
Where It Stacks Up Against Other Netflix Flicks
Honestly, if I had

to stack this up against Netflix’s other recent fare, The Old Guard 2 Review would land it definitely below Rebel Ridge (that one had my heart racing), and maybe just about on par with the Extraction movies — which, don’t get me wrong, have their charms if you’re purely in the mood for Chris Hemsworth smashing skulls.
So yeah, The Old Guard 2 does what it says on the tin: it’s an action sequel. There’s blood, bullets, and brooding looks, but not much else. If you’re cool with checking your brain at the door and just want to watch Charlize Theron look effortlessly badass (because, let’s face it, she always does), then go for it. Otherwise, it might just leave you feeling like you’ve seen this all before, because, well, you kinda have.
Our Verdict
At the end of the day, The Old Guard 2 plays out like a sword that’s seen better days, still capable of some cool, flashy cuts, but nowhere near as sharp as it once was. The action’s slick, the gunfights pop, but peel back the surface and it’s the same old predictable beats, with some truly great characters left hanging in the wind. If all you want is a dose of blood and bullets, you will walk away satisfied. But in The Old Guard 2 Review of things, just don’t expect anything deeper or more cutting, as this sequel’s edge is starting to dull.
